Trance music at Aardvark Records

From light to dark, euphoric to disturbed and galactic to the downright earthly – Trance music at Aardvark covers a lot of ground. Whether it’s unashamedly populist or a (very) acquired taste, the artists we sign tend to steer away from the cookie cutter trance factory conveyor belt. Welcome to our Wide World of Trance.

Euphoric & Uplifting Trance

Duneflyer - Uplifting Trance music producerThomas Allemann a.k.a Duneflyer was born in Solothurn, Switzerland, where he grew up. Duneflyer started making music when he was 14.

He was inspired by French electronic music composer, Jean Michel Jarre, and wished to become a great electronic music producer like Jarre.

Destiny however paved the way towards aeronautical industry. Years after he became an Airline pilot, he lives and works currently in Doha, Qatar - the middle east, as a wide body aircraft Commander. Apart from traveling around the world, he produces dance music in his home studio.

Front - Uplifting Trance music producerTrance producer Pavel Popov (aka ZOOM) is the head of trance-project FRONT.  He's a native of Berdsk, a small town in the middle of Siberia.

Some of his earliest music-related memories involve listening to Boney M and Cerrone.  His father bought and played records like these in secret- all Western music was forbidden in the USSR during this time.   As a child he knew he wanted to work with music.

He started the electronica group All or Anything in 1990.  This group played in Russian discos.  He became a member of the famed Russian group Culture Bunker in 1992 as a keyboardist and programmer.   Culture Bunker infused electro sounds with elements from Eastern music – leading to the founding of индуистской philosophies. International recognition came with the release of their 'Kalka The Warrior' album in 1994, released on Venture Beyond Records (Los Angeles).

Jason Sean - Trance music producerTrance music producer Jason Sean got his first keyboard lessons at the age of five. These were his first experiences with music. The more he learned about music the more he was fascinated by it.

As he grew older, he discovered a multitude of musical styles and he was determined to turn his passion for music into a profession. He diligently studied audio-engineering after school in order to fine tune his natural affinity and ability for production and audio-engineering; basically the technical aspect of making music. As Jason says; "I wanted to learn how to make a 'good' sound".

He knew that making music consists of 2 basic subjects:  music itself and the technical nuts and bolts of putting tracks together. He wanted to create his own sounds, he wanted to acquire the abilities to program and modulate sounds, to mix and consciously master his music… and learn how to critically evaluate and assess his 'sound'.  In between, he made some tracks in different styles: orchestral music and electronic music.

Hard Trance & Cyber Trance

Yuto - Hard Trance / Cyber Trance producer20 year old half Japanese and half English Hard Trance / Cyber Trance Producer Yuto Nagayama producer hailing from Japan. He started creating music at the age of 16. While he had no formal music production education, he knew that he wanted to create music for as many people as would listen. So he studied up on how DJ's make music, and found a program that suited his purposes. He downloaded a demo version of 'Fruity Loops' and started messing around with the knobs and modulators until he created something that sounded vaguely like real music. Ever since that time, creating music on computer has become his passion.

Yuto's not opposed to creating tunes in any genre - Trance, Rock, Classical, Funk, Thrash Metal, Breakbeat, Hip-Hop or R & B.  He's always looking to broaden his horizons.  Club music remains one of his main loves.

Progressive Trance

David Koonen - Progressive Trance DJ & ProducerIn the early 90's, David Koonen started producing music with trackers on the Atari ST.
Moving on, he started mixing hardcore and breakbeat and spending a lot of time in the record shops. The buzz in record shops told what was hot, was not and broadened his experience of electronic music.

His 'musical ear' developed. He unpicked countless tracks, listening to the productions and the arrangements – allowing him to discover what was possible in mixing. It also made him think about the technical things he wanted to do in producing music.
In the years that followed he started working together with artists Hannu Rekilä from Finland and Martin Bianco from Amsterdam. This resulted in a lot of tracks including "Flying Over Europe", "Blue Lagoon" and "Silver Star".

Jeff Alford - Psytrance DJ & Producer2006 was the year that saw Psytrance DJ and Producer Jeff Alford break out into the international dance music scene with his album "Heart of Trance" and his award winning video to the album's first single "Visions in Space".  However, his story started much earlier.
1998 was the year when Alford was part of a Hip-Hop band called Little Buddha in Lebanon. The experience gave Alford the confidence he needed to go solo. In 2002, after intensively studying the recording arts in America, Alford released his debut album "Down To Earth".   The 30 track Hard Trance/Hard House) double album was released through his own Jamixart Productions label.

Krash Kourse - Hard Psytrance ProducerThe whole hard and progressive Psytrance 'Krash Kourse' concept came about rather recently. Although the producer, Yuto Nagayama, had been making Psytrance tunes for years, he wasn’t concerned with putting any sort of label or name to the project. He was in an experimental stage and all he wanted to do was make some heavy beats, and just have a good time. As the project evolved, specific genre brackets and artist names started to emerge out of the woodwork. He settled on the name of the album project 'Krash Kourse' for one specific reason...

Timeliner - Goa, Psytrance & Minimal ProducerSince his childhood, Goa and Psytrance producer Christoph Allemann (a.k.a Timeliner) has been fascinated with the world of synthesizers and electronic sounds.

In his early days, he composed his own songs and had fun to playing them to audiences at school.

In 1995 the upcoming techno-scene in Switzerland inspired him to do some live-acts at Goa-parties with what was then some pretty basic equipment: a ROLAND TB 303, MC 202, TR 808 and a Clavia Nordlead. These helped him to discover his musical orientation.

Zetan Spore - live Psytrance actZetan Spore was originally formed in West Cornwall, UK by Ian Hasdell in 1995. After being inspired by psychedelic rock in the late 80's and it's evolution into early dance acts such as Eat Static and Astralasia - and then by the birth of psytrance in the first half of the 90's - Ian bought a second hand Amiga 1200 computer and started arranging samples to form his own style of psychedelic dance music.

After releasing his first album, "Alien Frequencies" in 1996 and getting some more equipment, his twin brother Mark came on board, playing guitar and didgeridoo to form their unique synergistic partnership.
