Eric McCallaghan is one
of South Africa's most-released trance and progressive music producers.
His tracks (under his own label, Beats Me Records) has releases on more
than a million printed CDs through 85 compilations, 16 singles,
3 albums
and 18 12" vinyl's, with more than 30 songs licensed to international
companies.
Pre-release singles ‘Narcoticide’, ‘Candy’ and ‘Passion of Now’ have
been hotting up the online dance radio airwaves. Major support has come
from the likes of Denmark’s No 1 underground dance radio station, Rise
FM plus InternetDJ, Tempo and numerous other stations. It won’t be too
long before the cuts from the album will be hitting the dance floors of
clubland.
Eric writes hooks that are as sharp as a Khoisan spearhead. His rhythms
have an exquisite timing that borders almost on the tribal. And he knows
how to get the most out of a beat. The genres of trance and progressive
house were always going to be a natural outlet for Eric’s talents. The
synths produce mashed up FX and mayhem one minute, only to be euphoric
in the next. Eric’s tracks are many things – but never predictable. Add
superb vocal talents from featured South African artists Jani and Lindsay
to the mix, and you get tracks that work on every level. The vibe can
be as hard as a set wave’s pit or as warm as the South African Bergwind.
The production values are as high as Kilimanjaro – without sacrificing
any emotion or passion. From the upbeat, funky and sensual “Positiva”
style title track(which got a thumbs up from Sonique during a South African
performance earlier this month) to the harder, punchy rave sounds of ‘Candy’
and ‘Rehab’ – this is an album about strength and quality. The inter-galactedness
of ‘Incarnation’; the throbbing, unadulterated sensuality and hedonism
of ‘Amazeng’ and the graceful ‘Ooh ooh Mmm’ provide the balance.
