Records has the pleasure of announcing that the UK indie rock quartet Little Spitfire have been nominated for an INDY Music Award.
The INDY Music Awards was created by collection of Independent live music promoters, artists and managers to recognise and celebrate the hard work of Independent Venues and Promoters (IVPs) and the artists they showcase.
Over 30 of London’s top IVPs have come together to select who, in their opinion, are the very best artists that performed in their London venues in 2006. Little Spitfire's nominations came from The Bullet Bar (London) and The Playroom (London)
The Organising Committee includes Jeremy Glover (6 Management), Robert Butters (And Entertainment), Chris Duffy (6 Productions) and Alan Mathieson (Vantage Events) along with Music Industry Panel Representatives from several industry bodies including PRS, MU, MMF and AIM participating.
The organisers are keen to stress that this is not some competition. "The objective of these awards is to give recognition to bands for being among the very best live acts that have graced the stages of London".
The awards work along very straightforward lines:
- IVPs have nominated bands as the best independent live acts that have played with them in 2006
- The nominated artists will go to a public vote via a dedicated web site IndyAwards.co.uk
- Voting is free
- The nominated artists will then be short listed and ratified by an industry panel. The top 4 short listed artists in each of 8 categories will be invited to attend the Gala Awards Night when the winners will be announced
- There is a Grand Prix Award for the artist who generates the most overall votes

Aardvark Records spokesperson, Alex di Savoia, said: "It's great when a band gets recognised in a very public way for giving that 'something extra' in their performances. Little Spitfire have always racked up great commentary about their stage shows. However, to them, giving everything they've got on stage is part of the job. It's what a band is supposed to do.
"This news, and the nominations, came as a bit of a pleasant surprise to them. Getting top marks from your industry peers is a rare and valued thing."
The Indy Awards Gala Evening will be held at The Clapham Grand, London on May 15th and hosted by Virgin Radio's Greg Burns .
