Little Spitfire video wins award

The Surrey based indie rock outfit Little Spitfire celebrated its first award win for 2007.  The band’s debut video for the single ‘if I look I see you’ won the Play Radio UK Music Video Award at a ceremony held at the Hotham Art Centre in Bognor Regis on 28 April.

Directed and produced by Neil Horner, part of the London-based production company Imageynation, the video took the top music video prize as part of the End of the Pier International Film Festival (EOTP).

Horner and the Imageynation production team deployed cutting-edge video production magic when creating a very distinctive video. Passionate about music, the production team wanted to do something definitive when they heard 'if i look i see you'.

The video, which went up against nine others in its category, glides effortlessly between high-gloss pseudo-animation and hyper reality. It features the four band members on a branded Spitfire plane facing off against a control tower operative who represents UK broadcasters and their control over what gets playing on the radio airwaves. It was all accomplished without a single rock music video or animation cliché to be seen. No small wonder then that the esteemed Computer Arts Magazine featured the video as part of its November 2006 issue.

Horner’s video has already proven a hit in North America with sports retailer Foot Locker’s national in-store entertainment platform. The video has also amassed a fan base online with services such as ROO TV, YouTube, Google Video, MySpace and a host of other prominent online entertainment websites. The promo video has also proved popular in tough music markets such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South America.

“EOTP is a highly regarded International film festival and we are extremely pleased to be awarded with this industry recognition for 'Best music video'”, Horner said.  He continued by saying, “The video was a pleasure to direct and I think this labour of love comes across on screen. It is nice to recognised by industry professionals and it helps to spur us forward to try bigger and more innovative ideas and techniques.”

John Fortune, Emma Burge, Stephen Rea and Allan Scott were some of the high profile names on this year’s judging panel.

Founded in 2002, EOTPis a non-profit independent film festival based in West Sussex. The festival originally showed work by local film makers. It has since grown to showcase shorts and features from all over the world.

Shane Connaughton, Academy Award winning scriptwriter and 2007 judge, described it  as "the festival on its way to becoming a very important date in the industry calendar, a place where new film makers can get a first chance to shine".
Carla MacKinnon, of the festival team said: "The festival has attracted interest from a glittering array of key players from the film and television industry".
