The Liverpool-born and Caledonian-inspired singer-songwriter Steve O'Connor has been enjoying rare praise from Scottish radio stations during his continuing radio interview junket in the region. With its creative inspiration, Scotland can lay claim to being his artistic birthplace. A spell living in the highlands led to his picking up a guitar and penning some very popular acoustic and folk songs.
Cuillin FM, Leith FM, Black Diamond FM and Celtic Music Radio are a handful of Scottish radio stations currently supporting O'Connor's new single ‘Hail Caledonia' from his second album 'Roll The Dice', released on the UK independent record label Aardvark Records.
The single is a tribute to Scotland, its culture and its people. "Scotland gave me music," O'Connor said in a recent interview with Inga Bonk from Cuillen FM. "This I is my way of showing my appreciation." And in his interview with John Murray from Leith FM O'Connor said: "The idea when I wrote it [Hail Caledonia] it would always be a piece of home for Scotsmen and those of Scottish descent. It's a very dear song to me; it’s written from the heart."
Geoff Ruderham from Black Diamond FM and Ross Macfadyan from Celtic Music Radio have also interviewed O'Connor, chatting about his songwriting, the album and his success with the single. Other songs from the album which are proving equally popular on Scottish radio include future singles: Roll The Dice, Never Alone, No Ordinary Life and If God Created Angels.
A tour of Scotland is currently planned for 2009 with dates to be announced early next year.
O'Connor’s growing success in Scotland follows his success in America earlier this year. He appeared as a headline act for The Art and Music of Scotland event hosted by the St George’s Society of New York. He also performed during Tartan Week and at an evening hosted by the New York Caledonian Club. He also played several successful solo gigs.
O'Connor came to the attention of Scottish Americans when ‘Hail Caledonia’ was heavily promoted by George A Campbell, the 76th Chief of the New York Caledonian Club, who picked it up and put it on the influential American organisation's new website. It is the only music entry on the club's website.
Campbell was so taken with the single he has been personally promoting it to other American Scottish societies. in Campbell‘s own words,: "I want to give special thanks to Steve O'Connor for giving us permission to play his wonderful tune."

ABOUT STEVE O’CONNOR
Steve O'Connor was born and raised in Liverpool, a cultural, charismatic city with a rich and famed musical heritage.
It wasn't until he moved to the highlands of Scotland, however, that his natural gift for song-writing began to manifest. This ancient land steeped in a music legacy all its own provided inspiration, both visual and spiritual. It was here that Steve taught himself to play guitar and subsequently write his own music and lyrics. After several fruitful and memorable years in Scotland, he returned to Liverpool where he continued to nurture his talent for song writing. His words and melodies captivate and enchant, while his warm and genial manner, coupled with his native Liverpool wit, engage his audiences in live performance. He has learned his craft well. While Steve takes his musical influences from both sides of the Atlantic, he remains a contemporary singer-songwriter with his own style.
