Steve O' Connor to perform at

the British Memorial Garden's

9/11 memorial concert in NYC

When then 9/11 terrorist attacks happened eight years ago, Steve O’Connor was thousands of miles away in his home in Liverpool.  Stunned, he watched as New York, a city which had given him many fond memories, was thrown into chaos.

"One minute I was working on some new songs and the next minute I couldn’t believe my eyes," O'Connor recalled.  "Everything went on hold in the hours and days that followed.  I asked myself the same kind of questions hundreds of millions around the world asked.  What kind of world did we live in. And where do we go from here?   New York was the first place I’d ever performed in America, so as an artist that makes it special…and there was just this carnage.  There I was in Liverpool.  What could I do?"

Eight years on and O'Connor has the opportunity to do something.  The Liverpudlian is one of the acts headlining the British Memorial Garden's memorial concert at Hanover Square, New York City.  He will perform 'Fallen City NYC', a song he originally wrote in 1989 for the Hillsboro football disaster and
re-wrote for this memorial.

Annual concerts and ceremonies will take place simultaneously on 11 September in both Hanover Square, New York and Grosvenor Square, London. These events are organized by the British Garden in association with The September Concert series in New York. The concert will also feature other acts including Russell Watson (The Voice), the choir of the Children of the British International School NY, the Manchester Regional Police & Fire Pipe Band and the New York Scottish Pipes and Drums.

A reception at the India House Club in Hanover Square will follow the concert.

The British Garden at Hanover Square is a gift from the British community and its Anglo-American friends to the people and City of New York.

When asked about the upcoming performance, O'Connor said: "It's quite humbling really. The invitation from the British Memorial Gardens Committee is a privilege.   I'd also like to thank the New York Caledonian Club for their continued support.  It's an honour to take part in such an event."

O'Connor will appear on radio and television whilst in NYC.
