“This band is the wildest, newest thing you are likely to see for a long time, particularly if you are a dance lover.” That’s what the hard to impress St Austell Band Club organisation said about one of Cornwall’s premier exports, the live psytrance dance music act Zetan Spore.
Such kudos should come as no surprise given the fact that twin brothers Mark and Ian Hasdell have headlined events such as Sunrise Celebrations, Future Sounds of Exeter, Antiworld in London, Monastery in Torquay, Candy Store in Plymouth, Parklife Festival and Tiger Beer’s ‘Euphoria’ festival in Singapore – where they played to a 25,000-plus crowd. Zetan have always proved equally popular in Cornwall where they pack venues the length and breadth of the county.
Aardvark Records, the act’s record label, is pleased to announce that Zetan Spore have been nominated under the Best Live Dance Category, for this year’s Cornish Music Awards. Other acts nominated in the same category include: I Say Marvin, Psykic Farmers and Glass Shark. The gala awards evening for the event will take place at Falmouth’s Princess Pavilions on Saturday, 10 May 2008.
The Cornish Live Music Awards was created to celebrate and promote the incredible collection of talented musicians currently illuminating the Cornish music scene. It was designed to bring together all the creative forces driving the live music scene in Cornwall forward, with a night of fabulous entertainment and celebration. A suitably motley crew of Cornish Music Industry individuals decided the nominations, with the real power going to the people, as they decide which of the current cream has the most support.
Zetan Spore’s music can best be described as driving, euphoric psytrance with didgeridoo fuelled tribal breaks and searing guitar riffs adding more depth and power to their sound.
The brothers have a reputation for creating the most uplifting and energetic vibe at their gigs and parties, they’ve built up a large and enthusiastic following and never fail to rock the dancefloor. Their music has been played on radio stations covering most of the globe. The secret of their success is not just their music. Their performance pack a tsunami- sized wave of pure and unadulterated positivity and fun. The Hasdell twins certainly know how to get a crowd going. They tease, taunt, entice, seduce and release with firm control and a lightness of touch. It’s a carefully crafted experience guaranteed to put a smile on the face of any trance fan. It’s won them consistent praise from music press and DJs from around the globe.

When talking about the award, Mark and Ian Hasdell said: “It’s great that an award like this was set up to recognise the quality of the music scene in Cornwall. And it’s nice that after more than twelve years hard work we have the chance to be recognised for our contribution to the local music scene”.
“I’m really proud of what the lads have achieved,” said Alex di Savoia, Head of Dance at Aardvark Records. “Ian and Mark have worked hard and deserve the industry respect they’ve received. When it comes to their fans, they give 100% and it’s brilliant to see that effort acknowledged and appreciated.”

About Zetan Spore
Evolving from the free party and festival circuit of the mid ‘90s, twin brothers Ian and Mark Hasdell have tapped into something extraordinary. Jaded clubbers, surfers, sk8ers and adrenaline junkies want something more from their dance music…wanting a bigger bang for their buck. This is a world where dance music fans have their own minds, know what they like and know what they want. Zetan Spore captures the spirit of this zeitgeist to perfection.
These intergalactic space cowboys have used the freedom of being based in Cornwall to experiment, push the dance music envelope and build a well earned profile for themselves on the British underground scene. The act has won rare praise from the likes of The Guardian and featured spots at live events such as London’s Antiworld.
Zetan Spore has won admiration, respect and success on the UK underground scene through years of hard work and sticking faithfully to their vision. This success has seen the release of five well-received LPs: The Pillars of Creation (1998), Subspace Distortions (1999), Outer Space Hopper Safari (2000) and Transwarp Audio Head Drive (2002) and Burn Up (2004).
